With the ubiquity of smartphones nowadays, manufacturers of these handsets are thinking of more innovative ideas to make their product stand out.
Research in Motion (RIM), the company behind the leading Smart phones Blackberry, is not to stay behind the scene with their newly released Blackberry Torch 9860 model.
The Blackberry 9860 Torch was released with three other smart phones powered by the latest Blackberry 7 OS. This operating system is capable of delivering liquid graphics technology. The technology works well with touch screen phones since graphics are more realistic and smoothly rendered at a tap of your fingertip.
The new Blackberry 9860 Torch is going head-to-head against competing Android phones. This model also wants to maximize visual experience through their 3.7 screens. Like their Droid contemporaries, the 9860 Torch has a display size of 480 x 800 pixels.
The all touch experience of the new Blackberry 9860 Torch is further enhanced with an improved user interface. Smart phone users need not worry about switching from alphanumeric characters to symbols because Blackberry has combined the numbers and symbols option in a single key. This change in design brings all the convenience that other touch screen phones have failed to deliver. The 9860 Torch also makes typing easier in their virtual keyboard since they have significantly added a few millimeters of spacing between each key. Typing can be done in QWERTY keyboards that can be oriented vertically or horizontally.
The Blackberry Torch 9860 model also boasts of its speed in delivering applications because of the improvements in the OS. Compared with the Blackberry 5 and 6 OS, the upgraded OS in the new Blackberry Torch is 40% faster.
The Blackberry Torch 9860 retains the same dimensions and weight of its predecessor at 120 x 62 x 11.5 mm and 135 g respectively. These smart phones have a sculpted back design so that it perfectly fits the user's hands whether it is viewed in landscape or portrait orientation. Other hardware similarities include the 5 MP camera with its face detection and zero shutter delay features. Videos have life-like resolutions which enable users to capture defining moments at 720p. As for the battery, the two phones are also similar. Both models use a 1230 mAh Li-Ion battery with talk time reaching as long as 6 hours and 50 minutes. At standby mode, these smart phones can last for 320 hours. The Blackberry Torch 9850 and 9860 have a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU with maximum processing speed of 1.2 GHz.
One feature that makes Torch 9860 different from the Torch 9850 is the cellular radio. The latter has a dual-band GSM that supports CMDA/EVDO REV A networks while the 9860 version has tri-band UMTS network support.
When it comes to storage capacity, the Torch 9860 offers a 768 RAM memory. The unit makes use of a 4 GB microSD device that can be expanded up to 32 GB.
Connectivity is not an issue for Blackberry Torch 9860. Users can directly browse the web with its Wi-Fi accessibility features. Data can also be transferred via Bluetooth and additional microUSB port.
All in all, the new Torch 9860 is a powerful smart phone that delivers the demand for graphical fidelity and hardware speed.
